Aglaonema Care Instructions by Lucknow Nursery

At Lucknow Nursery, we ensure that every Aglaonema is nurtured with love and care before it reaches you. To help your new plant thrive in its new home, here’s a simple care guide to follow:

Watering Tips:

Upon receiving your Aglaonema, first check the soil’s moisture level by inserting your finger a few inches deep or using a soil probe. We carefully compact the soil for safe transit, so it’s beneficial to gently aerate the soil before the first watering to allow it to breathe.

Aglaonemas prefer their soil to dry out slightly between waterings. If your plant is placed in bright, indirect light, water it when the top half of the soil feels dry. In lower light conditions (such as fluorescent lighting), let the soil dry almost completely before watering thoroughly.

Important:
Be cautious of overwatering, as Aglaonemas are prone to root rot. Yellowing or mushy leaves and stalks are signs of excess moisture. If noticed, let the soil dry completely and adjust your watering habits carefully.

Lighting Needs:

Your Aglaonema will thrive best in medium to bright indirect light. Direct sunlight may cause the leaves to curl to protect themselves from burning. In lower light conditions, ensure to dust the leaves regularly to help the plant photosynthesize efficiently.

General Plant Care:

  • Rotate the plant periodically to encourage even growth.

  • Dust the leaves to maintain healthy photosynthesis.

  • Inspect the undersides of leaves while cleaning to watch for any signs of pests.

🌿 At Lucknow Nursery, each Aglaonema is uniquely grown and may have slight variations in its needs depending on its new environment. Observe your plant carefully and adjust its care routine accordingly for a long-lasting, healthy relationship

FAQs About Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen) from Lucknow Nursery

Why are my Aglaonema’s leaves turning yellow or brown shortly after delivery?

This is most likely transplant shock, which is natural after the plant transitions to a new environment. Simply prune off any damaged leaves and continue with regular care. If the issue persists, review and adjust watering or lighting conditions.

Why are the leaves of my Aglaonema drooping?

Drooping can be caused by:

  • Too much direct sun: Leaves may curl to avoid sunburn.

  • Insufficient light: Leaves may wilt and weaken.

  • Overwatering: A mix of yellow and brown leaf margins with wet soil often signals excess moisture.

  • Underwatering: Crispy, fully yellow or brown leaves with dry soil indicate lack of water. Adjust the lighting and watering according to the plant’s needs based on its symptoms.

Why are the stalks turning yellow or brown?

This usually results from overwatering and root rot. Aglaonema stores water in its stalks, and excess moisture can cause them to rot. If this happens:

  • Pause watering immediately.

  • Aerate the soil or replace it if necessary.

  • Prune any rotting stalks.

  • Resume watering only after the soil has dried thoroughly.

How often should I fertilize my Aglaonema?

Fertilize once every six weeks from spring through fall using an organic houseplant fertilizer. Follow dilution and application instructions carefully.
🌱 Lucknow Nursery uses organic potting mixes with slow-release fertilizer, so there’s no need to fertilize your new Aglaonema for the first 3 months after purchase.
