Adenium is a genus of flowering plants. Plant lovers are always looking for easy to grow, unique plants with a fun aspect. Adenium desert rose plants are perfect specimens for the intrepid or novice gardener. These East African and Arabian natives are wonderful in the interior container garden or as warm climate additions to the patio display. Caring for desert rose plants requires a full sun location and well-drained soil. Properly mimicking their native regional conditions will garner plenty of rose-like blooms on an architectural marvel of a plant.

Adenium Plant’s Care Instructions:

Light: In their native habitat, adeniums grow in full sun so they need good light to thrive. Direct sunlight is preferable, especially when they are in their active growth phase during the summer months.

Soil: Soil is the very import part for a plant. Adenium plant should have a mixture of cactus soil with gritty sand or lava rocks for good drainage.

Water: Soil moisture is an important consideration in adenium culture. Adeniums can tolerate higher moisture levels without harming the plant, as long as the temperatures are warm. As a general rule, be sure to let the soil dry out in between watering sand then thoroughly saturate the potting mix. Do not over-water adeniums when they are in their inactive growth phase during the winter months. If the soil is kept too moist, root disease can become a problem.

Fertilizer: Adeniums should be fertilised when they are actively growing during the spring and summer months. We recommend a balanced fertiliser with an elevated middle number (phosphorus) to assist in flower formation.

Repotting: Repot every two or three years in spring with root-pruning. A well-draining soil mix is needed as excess wetness is a sure way to kill the Desert Rose.
